Apple gets what was coming

Personally I’ve never been a fan of this new apple air laptop and it seems neither has a Los Angeles law firm who are suing Apple on the grounds of “deceptively” marketing the new 20-inch iMac. Their claims are not false either, the apple laptop is said to have millions of colours, in fact it has 262,144 which is 98% less then others before it which defiantly changes the ability of the laptop when that 98% is 98% less colours in your favourite pictures, building plans, or new product. KBK has filed suit in U.S. District Court, Northern District of California in San Jose – in Apple’s home turf where Apple is a the native tongue, and Steve Jobs is , I hope for a win.

Napster + 02 = possible.

O2 have teamed up with Napster and will soon be allowing you to access a new download service which enables users to download their favorite songs directly onto their hand set. The service, which is launched this weekend, will give users access to over 5 million tracks from all the major record labels as well as many independent artists. The data downloaded will be encrypted to ensure that it cannot be illegally passed, shared or copied. Each track will cost 99p for the first 3 months, with the cost per track after the trail period still under discussion. Unlike other companies you still keep all downloaded songs on your handset even if you decide to swap services, which is always a good thing if you like to shop around for good deals.

Do bugs inspire robotics?

Dubbed the symbrion project the idea was generated from social networking bugs. The symbrion project mimics the idea of social networking found in some bug species: this has led to the assumption that maybe if they mimic this behaviour in robotics, they could possibly have many simple robots working together in such a way that it would create a collective intelligence greater than the sum of the components it’s made up of. Many scientists are crossing their fingers as the research involves a few “wait and see” techniques. If all is successful Winfield thinks that such intelligent swarms could even assemble into virtual doubles of people.

Talksport buy virgin Radio?

John McCann voiced his intentions to buy Virgin Radio, saying it has a similar demographic to its national speech radio station. John also said that Virgin would be a “good fit” for his company; he went on to say that “there would be significant cost savings” in bringing the businesses together. This idea may have stemmed from the fact that they have been getting continuously growing revenue increases: in 2007 there was a reported revenue increase of 12 per cent. If TalkSport did buy Virgin Radio we might start to see a strong leader among the radio industry, which can only be a good thing, right?

Yahoo- the start of a business drain

Yahoo has now confirmed that it will be moving to Geneva in Switzerland where the taxes are much lower in order to “increase financial performance”. This movement has only baited suspicions of a ‘business drain’ much like the ‘brain drain’ when the UK had ridiculously high tax brackets. Business leaders have warned the Treasury that, if these taxes continue to rise, the number of businesses relocating will grow substantially, which would cripple the already slowing economy. Nearly a fifth of UK tax receipts come from financial institutions in the City of London. The CBI urged the treasury to reduce business tax to 18 percent but Mr Darling decided on a 2 percent drop (30%-28%) which is well above Switzerland at 20% and Bermuda at 2%. It looks like the UK may have helped ensure its own descent into a recession.

Yahoo has managed to wriggle their way out of Microsoft’s takeover bid for an extra 10 days. Microsoft’s plan to take over Yahoo is simple: nominate its own directors, who would then force Yahoo to begin formal bid talks, or accept its $41.7 billion (£31 billion) cash-and-shares offer for the company. Microsoft is desperately trying to acquire Yahoo in an attempt at competing better again Google. Google are worth an estimated $40 billion, a number expected to double in 2 years, and with an estimated 66% of all searches conducted at their site Microsoft need this deal. Yahoo rejected the bid of $41.7 billion saying it was below their value. They are now trying to team up with other organisations to stop the takeover happening. The game’s called chess and it seems Microsoft hold the most pieces.
